For those who do not want to spend an inordinate amount of money to get their MBA online, here are a few guidelines: First, all online MBA programs are not created equal. Before looking at the price of an online education, you should first determine what quality standards you are willing to accept. If you are like most of looking to earn an MBA, you want your degree to impress those in a position to hire you post-graduation. For this reason, you'll need to enroll in a program that has established a good reputation. The main way for an online institution to earn a reputation is to become accredited. All colleges and universities have to meet accreditation standards that are set by regional accreditation associations, and these standards are rigorous. The quick way to check to see if the school you're considering is accredited is to go to the online school's website. They will invariably post their accreditation association on their homepage because they want to advertise their legitimacy. Once you've found the name of the association, go to its website and check to see if your state university is also accredited by that association. If it is, then the education it offers had to pass the same set of standards offered by a traditional school in your area that is familiar to employers.
Once you've narrowed down your school to those that are accredited, there is another main difference between these schools that apparently affect their price substantially. The difference is whether the online program is offered by a traditional university or a university whose main focus is on their online program. One can guess which one is more expensive. A traditional university often must pay much more in overhead than an online school, and thus must charge more for its programs. The traditional university will also charge a premium for its more established brand name. Online Universities, many of which have built great reputations in very little time, still face an upward battle in brand name recognition when compared to their cousins who have been around for hundreds of years.
Online MBA programs offered by schools focused on their online programs and accredited by trusted associations offer an educational deal that cannot be beat. The quality of education is comparable to that of a traditional school, while the price does not come with increased overhead and extensive branding, making it a much cheaper alternative.
